Nancy E. Smith has lived and worked in Maine since 1981 and joined GrowSmart Maine as Executive Director in April 2010. She served four terms in the Maine State House of Representatives, representing Monmouth, Litchfield and Wales, while working on her family's diversified livestock farm in Monmouth. She served as House Chair of the Legislative Committee on Business, Research, and Economic Development and as a member of the Committee on Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry. In addition, Nancy worked as a forester for over twenty years. She is a member of Monmouth's Economic Development Committee and serves on the board of the Rural Community Action Ministry. She formerly served as a member of the Maine Economic Growth Council, on the board of Maine Rural Partners, and as co-chair of the Council of State Governments/Eastern Regional Conference. Nancy is the mother of three native Mainers.
Andrew Zarro joined GrowSmart Maine in 2015. He grew up in rural Vermont, and graduated from The University of Vermont in 2010. He moved to Boston and received his Master of Public Administration from Northeastern University. Andrew has led several small nonprofits working on a range of missions including Exec. Director of a criminal justice policy reform organization and as Exec. Director of a Boston Main Streets District in Jamaica Plain. Now a resident of Portland, Andrew is so grateful to live in such a thriving New England city.
Kimberly Ballard, Office Manager, joined GrowSmart Maine in July 2010. She grew up in Liberty, Maine and is a graduate of College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. Though she has traveled all over the country, she keeps coming home and is constantly amazed by the beauty and strength of this state. She now lives in a beautiful old home in downtown Gorham with her partner and two cats and can often be found elbow deep in the gardens.
