Before you head out, here's the 4th reason you should join us in Augusta on October 23!

#4!

COMMUNITY PLANNING

As the population in Maine continues to grow, community planning is designing growth in a way that utilizes existing infrastructure, strengthens existing communities and conserves open spaces. Learn how different communities have managed growth and preservation at Summit 2012. The morning breakout session “Building Community – From Planning to Policy” will examine four towns and their varying approaches in planning, policy and community building. Delilah Poupore of Biddeford, Robin Mayer of Damariscotta, Carol Billington of Standish and Jarita Sadler of Gardiner will discuss each town’s specific approach in a discussion moderated by Jane Lafleur of Friends of Midcoast Maine. In the afternoon “Along the Highway Strip” shows how planning for growth along the roadside between our downtowns can meet market demand while respecting the unique contributions of our communities and open space. Led by Rich Roedner Director of Planning and Codes of the Town of Topsham, Lynn Seeley will discuss ReEnvisioning the Highway Strip, Kat Beaudoin will share her knowledge of Gateway 1 and Sara Devlin of the Maine Turnpike Authority will contribute to the discussion.

Summit 2012 Breakout Sessions allow you to explore in-depth the topics and issues that are important to you. At each session a moderator will introduce the topic at hand with panelists providing a brief overview of their work in the relevant area. Plenty of time will be devoted to Q&A and discussion with the audience.
