Public-Private Partnership | Passive House Workforce Housing in Brewer

Come tour and learn about Village Centre – one of the largest Passive House developments in North America!

5169722At this forum we’ll hear from members of the Village Centre development team as they detail the benefits and challenges involved with achieving the rigorous Passive House Institute US energy standards. Discussion will include the collaborative design and construction process, achieving the ambitious certification while staying within the budget of a typical affordable housing complex in Maine, and the critical role of the public/private partnership in making this project possible.

The focus of this project was energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and resident satisfaction. Through a strong partnership with the City of Brewer the project created:

  • More connectivity – sidewalk connections, lighting, the creation of a bus shelter, and a curb cut-out on State Street;
  • An enhanced focus on alternative forms of transportation – walking, biking, public transportation; and
  • Public amenities – the creation of a municipal parking lot.
