PORTLAND – GrowSmart Maine has received a $50,000 grant from the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation for general operations and for its work to develop and share a GIS-based resource guide for use by Mainers to create exceptional quality of life in their communities. An easily accessible, straightforward online database will allow Mainers across the state to engage and create tangible results in local and regional community planning with efforts to integrate economic development, land conservation, downtown revitalization, and transportation and housing initiatives.
GrowSmart Maine will also continue its work to identify regulatory redundancies and other impediments to smart growth; complete “ReEnvisioning the Highway Strip” which follows on the success of the Maine Model Town project in Standish; bring disparate groups together to find common ground around a shared vision and advocate for sustainable prosperity in Maine.
This is the ninth grant awarded to GrowSmart Maine by the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation since 2005.
