Can Transportation and Other Infrastructure Investment Support Smart Growth in Maine?

Exploring the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

Thursday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. (ET)

Erich Zimmermann, Deputy Director and Transportation Director for the National Association of Regional Councils, will provide an overview of the IIJA with a specific focus on the portions of the legislation that provide historic funding for smart growth. This includes billions in new funding for smart growth planning and implementation, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian projects, housing, and more, all of which have the potential to transform how cities and others approach transportation and economic development.

Zimmerman has two decades of experience in federal transportation policy. Erich is responsible for NARC’s transportation portfolio, which includes lobbying for regional priorities on Capitol Hill, working with the executive branch on program implementation, and keeping members informed and engaged. He serves on the Transportation Research Board’s Standing Committee for Transportation Planning Policy and Processes (AEP10) and on the Board of Advisors for the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California at Davis. Erich has a B.A. in Political Communication from George Washington University and an M.S. in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana.
