Portland – GrowSmart Maine is pleased to announce the addition of Janet Sawyer of Dover-Foxcroft as Business Development Director and the transition of Andrew Zarro from Development Director to Community Engagement Director. “With these changes”, says Executive Director Nancy Smith, “we are better able to support communities across Maine, building on the unique strengths of each of our team members.” Janet will build relationships with the many businesses across Maine that support and benefit from the mission and work of the organization. Andrew will continue his work in building a series of smart growth forums while traveling across Maine to implement Making Headway in Your Community, a community engagement program to build stronger, better connected communities throughout Maine in partnership with the Maine Downtown Center, a program of Maine Development Foundation.
Andrew Zarro grew up in rural Vermont, and graduated from The University of Vermont in 2010. He moved to Boston and received his Master of Public Administration from Northeastern University. Andrew has led several small nonprofits working on a range of missions including Executive Director of a criminal justice policy reform organization and as Executive Director of a Boston Main Streets District in Jamaica Plain. Now a resident of Portland, Andrew is so grateful to live in such a thriving New England city.
