GrowSmart Maine has been working with a broad coalition of environmental and land use planning organizations monitoring and engaging with the legislative-appointed LURC Reform Commission. Earlier this month, Jenn Burns Gray of Maine Audubon presented to the commission a list of suggested process improvements for their consideration. The coalition believes there are ways to improve LURC while maintaining its role as regional planning authority There appear to be thoughtful discussions going on, as the LURC reform commission meets at locations across the LURC jurisdiction.
Here is the proposal submitted to the Reform Commission on October 6th in Solon, ME: https://growsmartmaine.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/LURCreformproposal10411_000.pdf
